Synopsis from Goodreads

Welcome back to the charming New England coast, where Maddie James’s cat café is at risk of becoming a crime scene for the purrfect murder. . .

Maddie is hoping to have some downtime during Daybreak Island’s off-season to tackle her to-do list. Her grandfather’s house-turned-cat-café is under construction and she’s also scoping out places to open a juice bar on the island. On top of that, her relationship with adorable dog groomer Lucas has taken a pawsitive turn. But easy is getting harder every day for Maddie, especially when a big-name writer who’s on the island working on a new project winds up floating in the canal. This, on the exact same day an eccentric woman shows up at the cafe claiming Maddie’s cat, JJ, is hers. As the investigation into the dead writer picks up, Maddie realizes that even the neighbors she’s known all her life might be keeping secrets that go deep into the heart of this small seaside town. Meanwhile, a killer remains at-large...and on the prowl.

My Review

Maddie James continues to keep her cat cafe open even with construction happening all around it. Along with her grandfather, she’s making her cafe a success and she’s even considering opening a juice bar. Her relationship with Lucas is growing stronger. Things have never been better for Maddie.

Then a woman enters her cafe claiming that Maddie’s cat, JJ, actually belongs to her. The woman sounds crazy. There’s no way Maddie is going to hand over her beloved JJ. Maddie doesn’t want to make a scene, but she wants this woman gone. On her way out, the woman makes eye contact with a writer who has been coming into the cafe every day to work on his upcoming book. Maddie wonders if they know each other.

When the writer turns up dead, Maddie is determined to find out if it was an accident or murder. She can’t help but remember that the crazy woman trying to take JJ away from her might be connected to the dead writer. Maddie intends to find out.

This is the third book in the Cat Cafe Mystery series and it might be the best yet. I’m always a sucker for a cozy mystery with a cat and this one has plenty of those. The regular characters are well developed and always fun to re-visit.

The plot moved along at a nice pace. I did have my suspicions about the real culprit but I enjoyed the journey of putting all the pieces together. The mystery stands alone in this book, but getting to know the characters and their relationships really help to enjoy this series even more.

I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this delightful series.
