Book Beginnings on Fridays/The Friday 56 - May 31st

This week I'm joining in Book Beginnings on Friday. It's hosted by Rose City Reader.  This is where we post the beginning of the books we are reading or will be reading.

I'm also joining in for the Friday 56.

Freda at Freda's Voice started and hosted The Friday 56 for a long, long time. She is taking a break and Anne at My Head if Full of Books has taken on hosting duties in her absence. Please visit Anne's blog and link to your Friday 56 post.

Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader.
*Find any sentence that grabs you.
*Post it.
*Link it here.

It's that simple.

This week I'm reading Nora Roberts' latest book, Mind Games.  It's so good.  The excerpts are from the E-ARC.

Book Beginnings

For Thea, the very best part of summer started the second week of June.

From 56% on my e-reader

Tonight wasn't for quiet sleep, but for action.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

The #1 New York Times-bestselling author of Identity presents a suspenseful new novel of tragedy and trauma, love and family, and the evil that awaits.

As they do each June, the Foxes have driven the winding roads of Appalachia to drop off their children for a two-week stay at their grandmother’s. Here, twelve-year-old Thea can run free and breathe in the smells of pine and fresh bread and Grammie’s handmade candles. But as her parents head back to suburban Virginia, they have no idea they’re about to cross paths with a ticking time bomb.

Back in Kentucky, Thea and her grandmother Lucy both awaken from the same nightmare. And though the two have never discussed the special kind of sight they share, they know as soon as their tearful eyes meet that something terrible has happened.

The kids will be staying with Grammie now in Redbud Hollow, and thanks to Thea’s vision, their parents’ killer will spend his life in supermax. Over time, Thea will make friends, build a career, find love. But that ability to see into minds and souls still lurks within her, and though Grammie calls it a gift, it feels more like a curse―because the inmate who shattered her childhood has the same ability. Thea can hear his twisted thoughts and witness his evil acts from miles away. He knows it, and hungers for vengeance. A long, silent battle will be waged between them―and eventually bring them face to face, and head to head…

What do you think?  What are you sharing today?

  1. I'm tired and should be in bed. I think tonight is a night for sleep. ;)

  2. It sounds crazy but though I am a huge reader, I've never read a book by Nora Roberts!

  3. I noticed that Mind Reader showed up on two different blogs for this Friday's Book Beginnings, and then I opened my Goodreads and there was an ad for it at the top of the page! Thriller isn't my favorite genre, but this sounds interesting.

  4. This one is popular right now! I am glad you are enjoying it so far, Yvonne! I haven't tried her books under her Nora Roberts name, but I do enjoy her J.D. Robb books. I will have to check this one out. Have a great weekend!

After some careful consideration, I've decided to become an award-free blog. Although I appreciate and am honored by each and every award I've received, your comments and friendship are enough award for me. Thank you all so much for your thoughtfulness.

Due to way too many spam comments, I disabled the Anonymous User comments. We'll see if this works, otherwise I'll have to go back to word verification.
