Blog Tour: The Eggstone Murders: A Starfire Mystery by Herbert L. Smith (Review/Giveaway!)

Genre:
Cozy Mystery

Format:
E-Book

Publisher:
CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform

Release Date:
July 2013

The year is 1952. Embezzler and conman, Jerry Snowland, is preparing to leave Chicago and make a new life for himself. This includes a change of name. He’s now Guy LeFevre and making his new residence in a small town in Iowa called Hillville, where he meets the craziest people with secrets of their own to hide.

One person Guy strikes up a friendship with is the local cab driver, Caleb Starfire. Caleb is a young man with a dream – to start his own detective company. With the help of Guy, he gets his first case. Ironically, it’s an embezzlement case. Although Caleb doesn’t know it, Guy is the perfect one to assist him with this case.

When embezzlement turns to murder, Caleb and Guy have their work cut out for them. They have quite a cast of suspects to interview and get to the bottom of this. For sure, they will get no help from the inept sheriff.

The characters seemed a bit stiff at first but then readers get to know them - some are likeable, some not but they all have their own set of quirky traits. It took me a couple of chapters to get involved in this one, but when I did, I read through it quickly. The plot moved along at a quick pace.

This is the first book in the series and it’s a solid start. I would continue reading this series.
