Book Beginnings on Fridays/The Friday 56 - February 24th

This is a fun meme to do hosted by Freda's Voice. If you'd like to join on the fun go to The Friday 56.

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader.
*Find any sentence that grabs you.
*Post it.
*Link it here.

It's that simple.

I'm also joining in Book Beginnings on Friday. It's hosted by Rose City Reader

I just finished reading this.  It's a short cozy mystery.  It's so short that I picked my excerpt at 6% instead of 56% today.

First Chapter

"Oh my gosh, Mom.  These cherries are amazing!" Vi said as she plucked another ruby red fruit from the bowl on the kitchen.

From 6% on my e-reader...

"I don't know.  I'm not sure I can stand touching and pitting all those cherries."

I wasn't concerned about making a delicious cherry pie.

I already knew my pie would be scrumptious, even if I hated the filling inside...

Synopsis from Goodreads:

This is a short story that can be read as a stand-alone or as a prologue to the Olivia Faulkner Mysteries series. It is shorter than the rest of the books in the series which are all full length novels.

Olivia planned on a summer road trip across the country, but she ends up stuck in her childhood home in Grand Arbor Township when her camper van breaks down. Good thing there's a $1000 grand prize in this year's Grand Arbor Cherry Festival Pie Baking Contest... The problem is--somebody is determined to make sure nobody wins.

Can Olivia find out who's sabotaging the contest or will this year be the last cherry festival in Grand Arbor?

What do you think?  What are you sharing today?

  1. Does she like cherries or not? I'm confused. Enjoy the book/novella/short story.

  2. A cherry pie competition as a backdrop for a cozy sounds like a great story!

  3. I'm sensing a cherry theme here. :)

  4. Got me wanting cherry pie lol.... Happy weekend!

  5. How can you not like cherries? Cherry pie is my 2nd favorite pie - or at least top 5. Despite questioning the main character's taste buds this does sound like a fun read!
