The Weekend Review - August 12th-14th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to  Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

It's mid-August and the weather remains hot and humid here.  I think it's pretty much the same in most places these days.  Our heat index is in the triple digits and we always seem to be under an "excessive heat warning" alert.

Although I spend most of my time inside, I still only managed to read one book this week.  I did watch one movie, too.  I watched The Whale with Brendan Fraser.  It was excellent.  I've been wanting to see if for awhile and it was well worth the wait.

Other than that, it's been the same old stuff here.  How have you been?  Anything new and exciting going on in your part of the world?

I finished reading ...

This is my possible list of August books.  My schedule always changes so this isn't written in stone.  I guess it's more like a draft reading list 😁

Here is this week's Kindle freebie haul. They were freebies when I got them, I don't know if they still are. Always make sure to check they are still free before buying. The prices change quickly.

  1. Nice haul. The humidity has been awful this year. I want to watch The Whale. Hope this week is cooler.

  2. It's been pretty mild which is SO weird for August in Michigan. We're usually warmer and fairly humid. It was 78 today and breezy- really nice. I know a lot of places really suffering with the heat. Anyway... hope you have a nice weekend :)

  4. I feel like they give excessive heat warnings much more than they used to. Either that, or I never paid attention before.

  5. Happy Sunday! The weather has been the same here, but we're getting some lovely thunder storms in return! I do also want to watch The Whale but I'm a bit worried it might be too intense for me xD Your new books look great for a warm summer! I hope you have a lovely week :)

  6. The heat this year has been exhausting to watch. We are pretty moderate but get the smoky air from the Canadian wildfires that make outdoor activities difficult. Clear days are rare as our air quality remains iffy each day.

Did I just wish for colder weather and the end of fires and heat? Have a good week.

  7. In Mint Condition looks promising. I haven't done much lately. All this heat has slowed down my outside activities, but I can't seem to want to do much inside either! I didn't finish any books last week, and that's unusual for me.

    Here's to an early fall!

  9. We have had either humidity or storms. No in between. I am curios about The Whale and am glad you enjoyed it.

  10. It's humid here too... I hate it. I'm counting down to autumn.

  11. Luckily the PNW doesn't usually suffer from humidity and it has actually been a pretty mild summer - hovering in the low 80s most days with lots of clear skies. It's actually been pretty wonderful. Great haul of books - Enjoy!

  12. I hope everyone gets the usual fall cooldown in a couple weeks. The heat makes it hard to be energetic!

  16. We had quite the heat wave a couple of weeks ago but it's cooled down slightly this last week. It's been a scorcher this summer!
The Whale is on my list. I need to get to it soon. Glad you enjoyed it. Good luck with your reading this wee!

  17. I would like to see The Whale at some point and am glad you enjoyed it, Yvonne. It was a cooler week here than the week before, but I hear it's supposed to get hotter again this week. I hope you are finding ways to stay cool. I hope you enjoy your reading this week and have a great one!

  19. Cocoa Beach Cottage looks good. I almost grabbed that one, too, but I have so many at this point, I decided not to get it. I can't wait for fall weather. I can't imagine how hot it is in Florida. I hope you have a great week! :)

  22. Technically we still have a few weeks of winter left, but the weather has been pretty spring like so far this month. I hope your weather mellows soon.

Wishing you a wonderful reading week

  24. This is the most humid summer ever I think. Our temperatures haven't been that awful but it's so muggy you can barely breathe. I'm a bit north of you so I can't even imagine how awful it is in Florida. I've heard good things about The Whale. Have a great week!
