This week's question...
When you travel, how many books do you bring with you?
Has this changed since the arrival of ebooks?
My answer...
I used to bring around 10 paperbacks for a week's travel. No, I didn't read 10 books in the week, but my argument was I needed a choice. Since I'm a moody reader, what if I wasn't in the mood to read the books I brought along. LOL Then, what happens if you get stuck waiting at an airport and you have no books? Horrors! No way would I pay the very high prices of books at an airport when I have a mountainous TBR at home.
I've had my ereader since March and we've been away a couple of times already and my habits have definitely changed. All I take is my Nook which has over 400 books on it. I'll definitely be able to find something to meet my every mood. LOL It's easier to pack and I feel like I'm carrying around my entire TBR at all times. There's a strange sort of comfort in that - my husband thinks I'm crazy and perhaps I am - but he doesn't like to read, so what does he know?
How about you?

Four hundred books on ereader! Please tell me some of those were free.
ReplyDeleteI always buy my books at the airport. It is part of my holiday, to go to the book shop after checking in and buy new books, usually the hard backs which have been changed to paperback for the planes. They are so hot on luggage allowance in England, that i can't really take a lot before I go.
I can definitely see the attraction of e-readers on long trips. I love the idea of being able to take along a whole library of reading matter without using up all that space in the suitcase. Yes, it's a very comforting feeling. The hubby may think you're crazy, but I understand completely!
ReplyDeleteVivienne - LOL - Yes, many of them are free. In fact I'd say 95% of them are free.
ReplyDeleteJoy - I knew fellow readers would understand :) I fit my ereader in my pocketbook and I'm good to go :)
I also understand the comfort of having your entire TBR list right at your fingertips. That would be nice....I'm not sure it's enough of a temptation to make be buy an e-reader, though. I don't travel enough to make it worthwhile and I much prefer a real book in my hand.
ReplyDelete(If I told my husband all my little quirks regarding books & reading, he'd think I was nuts, too. Non-readers just don't get it.)
I am on vacation and 5 books made the trip with me due to keeping the suitcase weight down. I still have 10 days to go and only 1 books left. An e-reader would be great for travel. At least the house I am staying at has tons of books!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! I'm so moody too. I went on a big cruise and went through about 3 books before I found one that fit the right vibe to read while in paradise. Ereaders have made that possible!
ReplyDeleteLol, I usually bring a lot of books too, choice is needed
ReplyDeleteIt can be hard for me to decide which books to bring on trips, unless I already have an order or list in mind. But, it's also kind of fun and spontaneous to find a book or two at the airport shop, although you pay more, usually. I don't have an ereader, so I can't bring 400 books with me! :)
ReplyDeleteI reduce a stack of about 10 books to 2 trade paperbacks and Kindle when I fly to Asia.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog today. I checked yours out, liked it and am a new follower!
ReplyDeleteI am a "paranoid" reader when I travel. I bring more books than necessary because what if I run out of things to read on a plane? Horrors!
I do not own an e-reader although I think it would be fantastic for travel. Much easier and much lighter. Nothing beats the feel of a book and the scent of freshly printed pages though.
I used to try and squeeze in 3 to 4 books--but the last time I went to Europe I had to take 4 travel guides. I was sooo bummed. Only two books to read for fun--but with luggage restrictions, I just couldn't take more. I left 3 of the travel books on the cruise ship to make room on the way back.
ReplyDeleteThen the last time I traveled--took my e-reader!! WOOOOOT! I had many, many books. I had only just gotten it so I think I only had 25 or 30 books...well maybe 40. It was GREAT. Like you, I wanted lots of choices.
I don't travel a lot, but most of my books these days are ebooks. Sometimes it's because they are cheaper, but sometimes it's the instant download...that's the book I want to read Right Now.
