Review: The Cottage Next Door by Georgia Bockoven

Genre:
Women’s Fiction, Romance

Format:
E-Book

Publisher:
William Morrow Impulse

Release Date:
July 2015

Diana Wagnor is desperately trying to recover from a series of horrible incidents. They include being let go from her job to finding her fiancĂ© sleeping with her best friend to seeing her beloved grandmother’s home burnt to the ground. One thing is for certain, she needs a new beginning and she needs it now.

Diana leaves her hometown in Kansas and heads to California looking for a fresh start in life. She gets a new job and moves into her cousin’s beach house where she hopes the serenity of the ocean helps soothe all that ails her. She never expects to meet a very handsome neighbor, especially since she’s sworn off ever becoming involved with men again. However, there’s something about Michael she just can’t resist.

It’s been many, many years since I read the first book in the “Beach House” series. It is followed by two other full length books and then this sequel. I didn’t read the second or third book, but I will get around to it. I really do need to catch up.

The sequel is an emotional, sweet romance. The story is perfect for a novella. I do wish I had read all three books right before reading this one though. I was getting a bit confused with keeping straight all the characters that were mentioned - obviously characters from previous books. However, it didn’t really matter as this is Diana and Michael’s story and that’s where the focus is.

It’s a short, one-sitting book that readers will become engrossed in and find themselves transported to the beaches of California. The characters are realistic people you can route for and care about. Georgia Bockoven’s has a beautiful flair for writing these emotional stories and leaves you wanting to read another “feel good” type of book.
