Blog Tour: Healing Her Heart by Audra North (Review and Giveaway)

About the Book

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Format: E-Book
Publisher:  Entangled Publishing, LLC
Release Date:  May 2014

Informing the next of kin of a patient’s death is hardly cardiac surgeon Greg Stanton’s favorite activity. Tired of spreading bad news, he decides to take a week off and enjoy a few extra curricular activities—one in particular that hopefully involves a certain blonde director.

Carrie’s experience as the Director of New Beginnings, an Assisted Living Residence, has taught her that the wisdom of the elderly is often more healing than any drug. So when Greg drops by her office to tell her one of her residents passed away and mentions he’s taking some time off, Carrie suggests that he spend the time volunteering at her facility.

Greg is in need of a way to de-stress. After being burned by her ex-fiance, Carrie needs a little fun. What’s a little sex between friends? But when their casual arrangement is complicated by real feelings, one of them will have to step up to save what could be something special before they both tear it apart.

My Review

Sometimes it’s not easy being a cardiac surgeon. In fact, it can be more than a little stressful as Dr. Greg Stanton is finding out. For months he has been fantasizing about the beautiful director of an assisted living facility. Now, instead of taking Carrie Jankowski out for a romantic dinner, he has to tell her that he couldn’t save one of her clients.

Carrie is understandably shocked, but she accepts the news better than Greg. He is overcome by a sudden panic attack. She helps to calm him down, but Greg knows he needs more help than that. He takes a much needed week off from work, which gives Carrie the idea of his volunteering at her facility. She happens to be short staffed this week and this might help both of them.

Greg is more than happy to comply since it also gives him a chance to get to know Carrie better. At the same time, it gives her a chance to put some distance between her and her ex-fiance after he unceremoniously dumped her.

It’s not long before Greg and Carrie put aside their troubles and things really heat up. Carrie can’t help but wonder if there is any real future between these two or if it will end up like her last relationship.

This is a short, fast-paced romance that is packed with emotion. Readers will love Greg and Carrie who are two genuinely nice people with quite a few problems. Often in short stories there isn’t enough time to explore the characters or go too deep into a storyline. It feels as if something is missing, but I didn’t feel that way with this book. I’d love to read more about Greg and Carrie, but I was quite satisfied with the story as it is written. It flowed from page to page very nicely and each character – even the secondary ones – jumped right out of my e-reader. I’ll definitely be checking out this author’s books and see if she has a backlist. I enjoyed her writing style very much.
