Corpse in the Crystal Ball by Kari Lee Townsend (Book Giveaway! Review, Guest Blog)

Genre:
Cozy Mystery

Publisher:
Berkley Prime Crime

Release Date:
June 2012

Format:
Paperback

Sunny Meadows moved to the quaint upstate New York town of Divinity in hopes of living a quiet life away from the hustle and bustle of her parents’ New York City lifestyle. She is finally away from their conservative ways and can live the life she wants as the town’s psychic. Unfortunately, things didn’t quite turn out the way she expected when she found herself in the middle of a murder investigation and she was the main suspect. Fortunately, she has been cleared of all murder charges and is now free to begin her new life. Of course things don’t always go as planned…

Sunny’s parents send Granny Gert to live with her temporarily while Granny’s home is being repaired. Granny loves Divinity and especially loves Sunny’s cat Morty. During the day she dresses him in a new handmade bowtie everyday, at night she puts him in nightclothes complete with a night cap. Morty is tolerant of the older woman, but Sunny knows this won’t last forever. Besides, Morty is a mystical cat and just being nice.

Sunny is all set to rekindle her relationship with the sexy detective Mitch Stone, but his beautiful ex-girlfriend, Isabel, shows up in town and she’s sure she has no chance with him now. When Isabel disappears and is later found dead, Mitch becomes the prime suspect in her murder.

Against Mitch’s wishes, the police use Sunny’s psychic abilities to solve the case, while Mitch is suspended and has to sit back and watch. Not the best situation for either of them. As more twists and turns are thrown their way, Sunny is convinced she can never have Mitch’s love but that doesn’t stop her from wanting to prove his innocence. She knows he is no killer.

As the evidence piles up against Mitch, Sunny does some of her own investigating which leads to her own life being put in jeopardy. With the help of her disappearing cat, wacky grandmother and a town firmly on her side, she can’t lose or can she?

Corpse in the Crystal Ball is the second book in Kari Lee Townsend’s “A Fortune Teller Mystery” series and it’s even better than the first, which I loved. You can read my previous review here. I absolutely love the addition of Sunny’s Granny Gert. What a hoot! I love everything about this series from the quaint town to the crazy characters to the mystery to romance. It’s so much fun watching as it all unfolds. I can’t wait for the next one!

Now...a great interview from the author with her hero Mitch Stone...

Kari Lee Townsend gets the Scoop from Mitch

Kari: Alright, Detective Stone, I have to ask. Do you still have feelings for Isabel or not?

Mitch: Isabel and I go way back, but our romantic involvement has been over with for a long time. We were kids when we were together. Why do you ask?

Kari: Well, because, I just talked to Sunny.

Mitch: I don’t like the sound of this already.

Kari: Why do you say that?

Mitch: Hey, she’s the one who said we could only be friends. That wasn’t easy for me to hear. I was kind of into her, you know what I mean? But a man’s ego can only take so much. I accepted it, but I’ll be damned if I’ll play nice in the sandbox now.

Kari: You men, you’re so stubborn. Can’t you see home base is ready and waiting for you to slide into?

Mitch: What are you talking about? I don’t even like baseball. I’m more of a football sort of guy.

Kari: Okay, then tackle her. Whatever. Just do something or you’re going to lose her?

Mitch: Who?e home base is dbox now. of into her, you know what I mean? But  for a long time. We were kids when we were together.

Kari: Well, you don’t have to shout. If you don’t know “who,” then you have bigger problems than I thought. Just because I’m the author doesn’t mean I should have to spell everything out for you.

Mitch: Isn’t that your job?

Kari: You of all people shouldn’t be telling people how to do their jobs. No wonder Sunny gets so frustrated with you.

Mitch: Oh, so now we’re back to her?

Kari: We never left “her,” you numbskull. I think it’s time I revisited my character sketches.

Mitch: You do that. In the meantime, I’ve got a case to solve.

  1. Yes I did, a looog time ago. My BFF and I decided to go, and it was a 2 hour drive from our house. The first thing she said when we walked in was my mothers name. Freaked me out!! She told me quite a few things that came true.

  5. No I never have. My grandmother used to read tea leaves. I wish I could have had her read them for me before she passed away.

  6. I haven't had my fortune told but think it would be great fun to do it. A woman who did it here in town passed away while I was too young to convince my parents to let me go. Maybe the next time I'm in the French Quarter.

  15. I just finished the book, was excited to read it after just reading the first. I have to say I was disappointed. The mystery seemed to take a back seat to the main charachter day dreaming about kissing and men. Not my cup of tea but cute cover. I hope the next will be a more involved mystery,. This one was such a easy read . I never had my fortune told but I have friends that are psychic and they fill me in!
