The Weekend Review - August 10th-12th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to Stacking the Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

Another quiet week for me.  We lucked out as far as Tropical Storm Debby went.  No bad storms for us, just some rain and wind.  Now it's just really hot and humid, which means I'm in my nice, air-conditioned house :) I don't do well with humidity.

I only finished one book this week.  With all the bad weather and me staying inside, I'm not sure why I haven't read more but that's the way it goes.  I haven't even been watching much TV.  I'm only watching two shows now...Evil, which only has two more episodes left before it's over for good and I'm still watching Outlander.  I'm almost finished with season 2.  I guess I'm just on the computer too much and that, of course, is a big time consumer.

I was afraid I was falling into a reading slump.  I tried two books and couldn't get into either of them.  So, I put them to the side and started something else.  I'm loving the current book I'm reading so maybe it was just a moody thing for me and not a slump.  I'm going to give the other books a second try when I'm done with my current book.  The thing about the current read is that it's shorter and that may be helpful in getting me back in the mood to read.  We'll see.

Other than that, it's been quiet here.  How was your week?  I hope everyone has a great week.

This is my August list of books, but I plan to add others as the month moves along.

Here is this week's Kindle freebie haul.  They were freebies when I got them, I don't know if they still are. Always make sure to check they are still free before buying. The prices change quickly.

  1. Glad Debby didn't do damage to your area. Saphire's Tale looks good. XO

  2. I have been in a good mood lately, probably due to politics. The tables have certainly turned. Anyway I was reflecting on the last three books I've read and loved and thought there has to be a connection. Perhaps you are affected by humidity and threats of storms in a similar way.

  3. Glad the storms didn't damage anything.

We keep talking about air conditioning, but it would be very expensive to put in and wouldn't cool much of the house. Instead I just moan about being too hot 😂

    Have a great weekend!

  4. I'm glad Debby didn't cause problems in your part of Florida. I was worried about you, Yvonne.

I'm also glad that you haven't fallen into a reading slump. All it takes is a good book to pull me out.

  6. I'm glad that Debbie only brought with it a bit of rain. We had a wee bit of wind, thankfully nothing serious.

I've been a mood reader lately as well. I was worried it was the start of a slump but I think I just wasn't interested in the books I tried at the time. But I also just finished a series that had me hooked, so that could have been it as well.

Great choice with That Summer in Cornwall. Ciji Ware's Seasons Series is my favorite!

    Happy Reading,

  9. Glad the storm wasn't too bad for you. We had the remnants on Friday, which gave us some much needed rain. Our temps and humidity have dropped today. I have the windows open for the first time in a while. I hope it cools down for you soon. Have a great week. :)

  10. I don't do well with humidity either. It makes the heat so much worse and I find the heat oppressive. I'm glad you're enjoying your AC. :D Have a great week!

  11. Debby pretty much missed us too. All we got was a lot of wind that blew stuff around and broke limbs off of trees.

  15. It's great to get into a book that really works for us, I notice as soon as I am in a book like that my happy reading place is back.

  16. I'm glad that you didn't get too much of Debby. We had a full day of rain come up to Missouri from Texas after Beryl.

  17. So glad Debby left you alone. We had the humidity break a bit this weekend and it was magical. It's back now but it was wonderful while it lasted I'm so glad you're not in a reading slump! I hope you're having a great week!

  18. I'm glad the storm wasn't too bad! I also can't handle humidity. That's one of the reasons why I won't move out of Colorado. Other places are too sticky!

  19. I hope you get more reading this week. I nearly grabbed Tequila Midnight but since I have Kindle Unlimited I decided I'd read it through there when I have time.

  21. We've had a nicer week in the temperature / humidity dept and the upcoming week looks nice. When I get moody I try a different genre.
