Synopsis from Goodreads:

The town of Misty Meadows is excited about an upcoming pet store grand opening until they discover a cat thief and vandalizer is in their midst.

Lily Roberts, the proud owner of Misty Meadows’ quaint Bread & Barks Bakery, is turning her dreams into delicious reality while adding a dash of charm to every freshly baked treat.

She does it all with the help of her two dachshund pups, Casey and Copper, who are better treat-testers than they are business partners. When Lily learns a new pet store will open right across the street from her bakery in the coming weeks, she’s thrilled at the prospects of having easy access to supplies for her furry friends.

The only problem is that someone seems determined to keep that store from ever opening its doors.

The moment the grand opening is announced, trouble starts brewing for the small-town pet store. First, there’s vandalism. Then, the store’s cat rescues are catnapped! With the police focusing on the vandalism, it’s up to Lily and her pups to find the missing felines.

Luckily, Casey and Copper have great noses for mysteries and are hot on the trail of those missing cats. But will Lily be able to find all the clues before the pet store is shut down for good? Even more importantly, will she survive the danger she finds herself in once she learns the truth?

This book is perfect for anyone who loves cozy bakery mystery books that are filled with excitement and danger (and maybe a few friendly doggie snuggles.)

My Review

The small town of Misty Meadows, Vermont has many cute shops.  Lily Roberts, along with her two dachshund puppies, own a bakery called Bread & Barks Bakery.  She’s excited to find out a pet shop will be opening up across the street. The pet shop even features a section for cat rescues.  She already met the owner, and they have become fast friends.

All is not that happy in Misty Meadows, though.  Someone doesn’t want the pet shop to open, and they vandalize it before the grand opening.  The cat rescues are missing.  Lily vows to find them and discover who is behind these horrible attacks.  Who would want the pet shop closed like this?  She quickly discovers that danger lurks every place she turns.  Lily has put together a long list of suspects.  She and her puppies are determined to find the missing kitties and restore order to their peaceful community.

This is the first in the series and I found it adorable.  It’s a quick, charming read with cute characters.  Except for the bad guy - he wasn’t cute.  There is no murder in this one but it’s an interesting puzzle to figure out.  It’s a nice introduction to this set of characters.  They are lively and I already care about them.  I found them easy to get to know.  They didn’t have that stiffness of a first novel that sometimes happens with "first in a series" books.  There’s even a touch of romance.

This one can easily be read in one sitting.  It kept me guessing to the end.  I’ll definitely be looking for more in this series.
