Monday Musings - Secondhand Bookstores

If you'd like to join in on Musing Mondays, just click the button above.

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about second hand book stores...

Do you frequent secondhand bookstores? Have you ever bought a book home only to find anything interesting within their pages?

I love secondhand bookstores. There's only one near me and I haven't been there in awhile, but it's great. It's small with personalized service - it's just the owner of the shop who is in there and I've gotten to know her over the years. We enjoy the same types of books so she's always recommending something to me and hasn't steered me wrong yet.

No, can't remember ever finding anything interesting within their pages, except for a good story :)

  5. I cringed when I saw your subject because I was worried it would be a criticism. I shop used book stores almost exclusively because money is tight and the clearance racks of $1 books are so tempting. We even have to go out of our way to get to our local used book store(s) (there are two, on opposite sides of town), but it's always worth it!

Last week I got a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird that turned out to be very interesting, and it was unfortunate that I had to exchange it because it was so heavily defaced. The book itself had been assigned as a school project, and it seems that the assignment was to underscore the book and to learn how to deface a book by writing in the margins. (I'm dripping irony here, just so's you know).

It was interesting. The student loved the book, and noted such. I wish I could have kept it to read through more of his notes (he got an A on the project!) but the book itself was rendered unreadable and of course I'd paid for a book to read, not notes to read.

BTW, To Kill a Mockingbird is my all time favorite book. :)

  6. I found a copy of The Giver signed by the author, Lois Lowry, at a thrift store. I was thrilled! :)
