Synopsis from Goodreads:

In the pulse-racing new suspense novel from the bestselling and acclaimed author of Bring Her Home and Since She Went Away, the life of a little girl rests in the hands of the father who never even knew she existed...

When Michael Frazier's ex-wife, Erica, shows up on his doorstep pleading for help, she drops a bombshell that threatens to rip his family apart: Erica's nine-year-old daughter is missing--and Michael is the father. Unable to quickly determine if Erica is telling the truth, and unwilling to leave the little girl's fate to chance, Michael has no choice but to follow the elusive trail of the child he has always wanted and never knew he had.

But finding Felicity comes at a price--the closer Michael gets to the truth, the further into jeopardy his marriage falls and the faster his family begins to unravel. As lies that span a decade bubble to the surface and the window for Felicity's safe return closes, Michael will have just a few short days to decide who can be trusted and who is hiding the truth.

My Review

Michael and Angela Frazier were enjoying a quiet evening at home when their doorbell rang. Their lives were suddenly turned upside down with the appearance of Michael’s ex-wife, Erica. Her 9 year old daughter has been kidnapped and she begs Michael for his assistance. He had no idea she had a child, but he can’t understand why she’d need his help. The police would be a much better choice than him. Erica drops the bombshell that her daughter is also his daughter. Michael has no idea if this is true, but a child’s life is on the line so he drops everything to search for the girl.

Angela isn’t so easy to accept Erica’s story, but she is forced to stay home and wait for news. As Michael and Erica search for the child, secrets from the past come to the surface leaving Michael more confused than ever. Still, the number one concern is finding the little girl safe and sound. Everything else will have to wait to be sorted out.

This is a totally captivating book that grabs you from page one. I thought I knew all the answers early on, but I was wrong. There are so many layers to uncover in this suspenseful novel.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author. I’ve quickly become a huge fan. I’m fascinated with his writing style. I loved one of his other novels, Bring Her Home, but this one was even better. It had everything I look for in a suspense novel - non-stop action, edge-of-your-seat drama and an intricate surprise ending.

I’ll be looking forward to reading more of David Bell’s work. He’s become an “auto-buy author” for me.
