Guest Post/Book Giveaway: Truffled To Death by Kathy Aarons

About the Book

Genre: Cozy Mystery, #2 in A Chocolate Covered Mystery Series
Publisher: Berkley Prime Crime Mystery
Release Date: June 2015

Synopsis:

Two best friends sell books and bonbons—and solve crimes—in this mystery from the author of Death Is Like a Box of Chocolates

Hoping to sweeten sales for their shop, Chocolates and Chapters, Michelle and Erica host a reception highlighting a new museum display of ancient Mayan pottery curated by Erica’s former mentor, Professor Addison Moody. The evening has a few hiccups, but the ladies soon smooth things over with ample servings of wine and chocolate.

Yet with the sweet comes the bitter. The very next day, the antiquities from the reception are discovered missing. The professor accuses Erica of having sticky fingers, claiming she wants revenge on him. And she’s only in more trouble after he’s found stabbed to death with one of the artifacts. Now Michelle must help Erica track down the real killer before someone else finds themselves in less than mint condition…

Revisiting the Fictional Town of West Riverdale, Maryland

I had a nice visit back to West Riverdale, Maryland, when I wrote Truffled to Death. Fictional, of course.

West Riverdale is filled with a cast of characters who are so much fun to write! It was like hanging out with old friends after a long absence while I added to the adventures of Michelle Serrano, the snarky chocolatier, and the brilliant and kind bookstore manager, Erica Russell. And of course I brought back their love interests – noted journalist and author, Bean Russell, and the handsome Lieutenant Bobby Simkin.

I introduced new townspeople – the single May Jensen, flower shop owner, and her man-hunting buddy, Nara Prashad. We learn more about the River family, which the town was named after centuries ago.

And then there were the out-of-towners: the snooty Professor Addison Moody and his grumpy assistant, Lavender Rawlings. The suave and possibly criminal Carlos Morales and Santiago Diaz. What were such worldly men doing in such a small town?

I live in southern California, and visited the area around Frederick, Maryland, where the town is set, to absorb setting details that I never could’ve gathered no matter how searched Google images at home. The gorgeous green of the oak trees, the rolling hills, and the centuries old stone buildings. The way small towns are centered around beautiful churches. The 25 mph speed limits down Main Street. The friendliness of shop owners and restaurant workers. The Welcome signs seem to be genuine.

I recently finished writing the third book in the series and once again had the sensation of coming back to a place I knew well and loved.

About the Author

Kathy Aarons is the author of Truffled to Death, the second book in the Chocolate Covered Mystery series by Berkley Prime Crime. Death is Like a Box of Chocolates, the first book in the series, was a national bestseller and was named a Top Book of 2014 by the San Diego Union Tribune.

Research for the series was such a hardship: sampling chocolate, making chocolate, sampling more chocolate, and hanging out in bookstores.

After growing up in rural Pennsylvania and attending Carnegie Mellon University, Kathy built a career in public relations in New York City. She now lives in San Diego with her husband and two daughters where she wakes up far too early, and is currently obsessed with the Broadway Idiot documentary, finding the perfect cup of coffee, and Dallmann’s Sea Salt Caramels.
