Musing Mondays - Children's Books

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about books for children…

Do you buy books as gifts for children – either your own or those of friends or family? Would you buy books for all children, or only children who are already practiced readers?

This is an easy question for me, I don't have any children so I don't have any kids to buy books for. I used to buy my nephew books, but since he and my brother moved out of town, I usually just stick to gift certificates from Amazon. I have no idea what he's reading, if he's reading or what he wants or needs anymore.

If I did have children around, I'd buy them books if they showed an interest in reading. If my nephew lived closer, I wouldn't hesitate to try and get him interested in reading, although I would never force it.

  1. I don't really get a chance to buy books for children anymore either, Yvonne. I used to when my goddaughters were younger. And I used to get gift cards for my step-nephew and niece since they lived so far away and I didn't really know what their tastes were. Of all of them, only my step-nephew was (and is) really a reader.

  2. Same here. There's just no children in the family to get books for. I do get my nephew gift cards sometimes, but that's about it.

  3. I think the greatest gift that you can give a person is a love of reading, and giving a child a book of their very own, hopefully about a subject that interests them, is a great way to start.

  5. It depends on the child. If I want to get them interested in reading, I'll buy them a book that I know they have a special iterest in i.e. sports, Princess themed, or even one about their pet. Some kids won't get interested until they read a book abt them i.e a personalized book from http://www.book-worm-store.com

  7. I would definitely buy children books, if I knew any who liked them. If my nephew lived closer and I could see what he has and what he likes, I'd definitely buy him books. For now, he gets gift cards to Amazon and hope for the best.

  8. Set in today’s day and time, Me and My Best Friend is about a young boy, his faithful companion and their exciting adventures.

Henry and Liam are the best of friends and they do everything together. They can run and play all day long. But when Henry the puppy gets tired and tries to take a nap, three-year-old Liam keeps waking him, wanting him to play some more. Will Henry get any rest?

Get your children involved with this beautifully illustrated book. Your child will love to match up words and pictures, and find Liam, who keeps hiding in his bedroom. Perfect for the young reader!
