The Weekend Review - June 10-12th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to  Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

I hope all those dealing with the Canadian wildfires as well as those dealing with the horrendous smoke from it are doing well.  The pictures look terrible and I'm sure it's even worse to be there.  I hope everyone stays safe.

I had a quiet week.  I finished two good books.  I'm not really watching much as far as TV goes.  When Strange New Worlds (Star Trek) returns this week, I'll be watching that.  It's a weekly show, though.  So, I can't binge it.  Anyone have any binging recommendations?  Now that I'm done with Criminal Minds, I want to binge another show.

I don't really have any big plans this week.  I hope to just do some more reading.  I can't do any walking or reading outside because it's just too hot for me.  I prefer my a/c house :)

I hope you all have a great week.

I finished reading ...

These are the books I'm hoping to read for the rest of June.  Of course, knowing me I'll have some changes along the way.

Here are this week's Kindle freebie haul. They were freebies when I got them, I don't know if they still are. Always make sure to check they are still free before buying. The prices change quickly.

  1. My suggestion for TV shows is always going to be Babylon 5, but I'm not sure where it is streaming. Maybe the Roku channel still?

  2. I struggled with what to watch after bingeing Criminal Minds as well. I ended up starting CSI:NY over again. I'm about to start season 7. Have a great week :)

  3. It has been so hot here as well that I've also stayed indoors mostly, not worth the heat exhaustion or the sunburn for me! And yes, the pictures from the wildfires were horrendous, I hope everyone is doing ok in the affected areas. Have a lovely week full of good books :)

  4. Even though it is hot here, too, I aim to walk a little every day in the shade.

I wish I could suggest some good shows for binging. We just got Paramount, and are wrapping Picard up, and we hope to watch more new-ish Star Trek.

  5. I read Hot Pot Murder and found it an okay read, but I gave it a 4. Have a good week.

  6. I've been enjoying the summer more. It helps to go exercising daily at the YMCA because you have more energy to go out in the day. I wish I could recommend some shows. but I've been on the same kdrama for a couple weeks now.

  7. The wildfires in Canada are just heartbreaking. And worrisome. We had some bad days with the smoke here--not as bad as New York or even DC, but bad enough to avoid going outside.

I assume, since you'll be following Strange New Worlds, that you're up-to-date on all the other Star Trek shows. So let me suggest a mystery series you may not have heard of: The Brokenwood Mysteries. It's a small-town mystery series set in a fictional town in New Zealand. The leads are really good, and play off each other well. We loved the first season (4 episodes) and are almost through season 2. There are 7 or 8 seasons, and some of that later ones got more episodes. It's available through Acorn or BritBox, I think, but I can't remember which.

  8. The show I'm binging right now is Once Upon a Time, but most people I know have already seen that entire series. I have also started binging Murder, She Wrote, but most people have already seen that too. I think at some point I want to watch Charmed. Enjoy your week. :)

  9. I wondered about strange New Worlds... I'm a Star trek fan but don't always like the new shows. I might try it.

The Rig on Amazon was pretty good. Emily Hampshire is in it and I've enjoyed her on different shows in the past...

  10. I haven't been watching a lot of tv so far this year at all! When ever I have a gap, I just read! But it will calm down again.

I'm a bit out with cozies at the moment - need to stock up again and you have a few nice ones with kitties to boot that I can take a closer look at.

    Have a great week Yvonne!

  12. I hear you about the heat. My exercise is now indoors on the Max Trainer and chair yoga! 😊Cute cover on How the Murder Crumbles! I hope you’re enjoying the book! I’ve seen Bookshop on the Bay around on blogs. Looking forward to your review! Happy reading!

  13. It's been heating up here, but not too bad yet. Hope you can stay cool.

Great list of books this week, especially The Bookshop by the Bay; combines my two favorite things: books and reading at the beach. :)

Hope you have a nice week.

  14. How the murder Crumbles looks like good reading. Hope you find some good new viewing. Yes I too hate sitting outside in summer in the heat to read. It's why I love winter!

  15. I don't watch TV and have no suggestions about what to binge watch. Mark's suggestion about Babylon 5 makes me want to watch it again though. It hasn't been very warm here and the Canadian smoke seems to be missing us this year, but I still don't go outside to exercise. I guess my couch is too comfortable. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  16. I recently finished watching Queenmaker on Netflix, it's a thriller its a kdrama I thought it was very good. Mulled to Death I have only heard good things about so I hope you enjoy it!

  17. We are looking forward to Strange New Worlds too. Have you ever seen Bosch ? That is a good detective show to binge watch.

  18. How The Murder Crumbles is such a great title. I hope you're enjoying it.

  19. I only read one book this week, and it wasn't one I loved. Some might enjoy it, though. I continue to binge shows I've seen before, like going through all the seasons of Sex and the City.

  20. The smoke has been bad here too. Working outdoors is brutal. I can't imagine how bad it is in Canada.

  21. Good luck finding something else to binge! Maybe after something as heavy as Criminal Minds a lighter show would be good? I've enjoyed binging Friends or The Big Bang Theory and they're pretty fast watches. Can't wait to see what you end up with. It's been hot here too though now it's storming so who knows what the weather will be tomorrow. Have a wonderful week!
