The Weekend Review - June 3rd-5th

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~ It's a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

If you'd like to participate with The Sunday Salon, it is now being hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is a meme with a new host!  It's now being hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. This is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from!

I'm also linking to  Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Reading Reality.

Hi Everyone!

It's the first week of June and I can't believe how fast May flew by.  It's rainy season in Florida, but we've also had some sunny days too.

I finished two books this week.  They were both good ones.  Has anyone else found that the older you get, the slower you read?  I used to be able to read a book a day, not anymore.  My reading lists are way bigger than what I can accomplish but I continue to try.

I finally finished binging on Criminal Minds.  I saw this series when it originally aired, but I was quite surprised to see much I had forgotten.  A really good show.  The Blacklist is still airing new episodes, so I'll continue watching those.  Other than that, I'll probably just be watching baseball.

I hope you all have a great week!

Posts last week:

Monday:  Awww Mondays

I'm currently reading...

I finished reading ...

These are the books I'm planning to read in June.  I only had two carryovers from May.  That's not too bad, plus I might still read another book before Wednesday.

Here are this week's Kindle freebie haul. They were freebies when I got them, I don't know if they still are. Always make sure to check they are still free before buying. The prices change quickly.

  1. I didn't realize The Blacklist was still going. I started that show a few years back. I can't believe how fast June went. Seems like it was just New Years!

  2. The Little Italian Hotel looks so good! I am adding it to my list.

  3. I find, as I have gotten older, that I am better able to find and read books that I love. I have, sadly, always read too fast, so I hope to slow down and enjoy my books more in the future.

I think we may have hit our rainy season here along the Texas Gulf Coast, too. We tend to have a shower every afternoon in the summer.

  4. I can't believe it's June, either... I've come across Pamela Kelley as an author, but not read any of her books - so I need to check out her books. Have a great week, Yvonne.

  5. It's definitely been rainy and cooler here too. Here's my SP: https://bonniereadsandwrites.com/2023/06/04/sunday-post-seeing-clearly-sundaypost/

  6. My reading has slowed down, too, mostly because I am distracted by other things, like viewing. Enjoy your week!

  7. It's funny that you said that, but I feel like I read a bit slower now too. Maybe just what we are reading, LOL. Have a great week!

  8. I've noticed that I don't read as fast as I used to. It's at least partly because my eyesight has gotten worse. Even with reading glasses (which I have worn since my teens), my vision isn't as good for reading anymore.

May was cooler here in Virginia as well, and I loved it. But it's going to heat up this week. Have a good week, both in terms of reading and in general!

  9. Yes, Yvonne, I read slower these days and, yes, I'm getting older LOL

  10. I can't read print books fast anymore because the print is to small for my eyes, ebooks I can read a bit faster but still not real fast, so it's why I listen to a lot of audiobooks...lol.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  11. The oldler I get, the more distracted by other things, it seems. But I have a long list of TBR books, which I choose at random or according to mood. Have a great week.

  12. I feel like I am reading less too. I wasn't sure if it was age or just my attention being pulled in too many directions. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a combination of both. I hope you are enjoying Paws and Probable Cause. It looks cute! Your June reading line up looks so good! I hope you have a great week and month. Happy reading, Yvonne!

  13. My reading is slower now too but I'm trying to get back to where I was before covid. I love the cat's face on the cover of Paws And Probable Cause :)

  14. I seem to be reading a little slower these days, but am also better at choosing books I enjoy. Love the cover of The Little Italian Hotel. Hope you have a good week!

  15. The Black List has been so good this season. I read less because I always fall asleep. :) XO

  16. I am actually reading faster nowadays, but that's because I'm reading more than I ever used to. I still read pretty slow compared to most avid readers I know, though. On average it takes me a week to ten days to read one cozy and about a week if I'm listening to an audiobook. I think the most important thing, is that we enjoy it...and that I do! :)

  17. May went by weirdly fast somehow! I've found I read a lot slower because I'm so often distracted or just tired. Audiobooks really save my reading count! Have a great week!

  18. Yes I have found the older I get the slower I read. I thought it would be the opposite. Oh well whatever works I guess.

  19. Don't tell me my reading is going to slow down. I need to read faster to get through all the books I want to read.

  20. I’ve not noticed I’m reading slower but I have noticed I’m finding it harder to retain details about what I’ve read for as long.

Wishing you a great reading week

  21. I don't think I'm reading slower, but I do find myself craving rereads of books I read many years ago. I'm less willing to try out a new author. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  22. What great books on your list this week! Can't say I read slower, but I'm better about not wasting my time on loads of description. It helps me get through some books.

Hope you have a nice week.

  23. I started reading slower with age then found out I needed glasses. Wah wah. My attention span has also been very uneven these last few years.

  24. Your current read has a fun cover. I agree, the older I get the slower I read! lol We watched a few seasons of Criminal Minds but didn't finish the whole show. Enjoy your books this week.
