My Review

It’s summertime in the small town of South Cove, California and everyone is getting ready for the Summer Festival on the beach. Jill Gardner, owner of the shop Coffee, Books, and More, is busy getting her new food truck and staff ready for the big party.

Jill is excited to see a new shop opening up called Tea Hee. She even has an arrangement with the owner, Kathi Corbin, to feature her tea in Jill’s coffee shop. It’s not long before Jill realizes mystery surrounds Kathi when her sister shows up looking for a job. She can’t understand why she doesn’t work for Kathi and, instead, is applying for jobs all around South Cove. Then, murder strikes in a local motel and all the evidence points towards Kathi. She’s determined to prove that it couldn’t be Kathi’s doing, but how well did she really know her new friend and her family?

Jill and her boyfriend, police detective Greg King, have an agreement – she keeps her nose out of his investigations and they will get along just fine. Of course that’s an agreement Jill finds impossible to stick to.

I love this series and the latest entry into it is even better than the previous ones. We get to know the main characters more and more with each book. The romance between Jill and Greg is moving along at a steady pace. Greg is a bit more tolerant of Jill’s snooping but not 100%. The romance does not overpower the mystery. The mystery is still the main point of the story which is exactly what I want in my cozy mysteries.

I was a bit surprised at the ending, but not blown away. There were really only a couple of choices and the one used worked well. I liked how it all wrapped up in the end.

One of my favorite things to do on vacation is explore small towns just like South Cove. So, for a few hours, I felt as if I was actually in one. That’s probably why I adore this series so much…the small town atmosphere, the cute little shops, and all the nutty characters. I always enjoy every minute in South Cove.
