First Chapter


Samantha Hodges' pen stopped.  She raised her eyes without lifting her head to look from Laurie Saxon, sitting next to her, to the girl standing over a bulging garbage bag across the room.  Sam's hand remained poised over her reporter's notebook.

"I saved the last three for you guys," he said, nodding down toward Greta's chocolate brownies.  "But I'm not trying to bribe the tribunal, I swear."
