Booking through Thursday - Covers?

If you'd like to join in on Booking Through Thursday, just click the button above.

This week's question...

CAN you judge a book by its cover?

My answer...

No, absolutely not! Even though I started a book cover meme last Saturday (hint hint...stop by and play every Saturday - LOL), you can't judge the quality of the book by the cover. Some of the chick lit covers are kind of cartoonish and if I went by the covers, I never would have read some really good books. Even some of the paranormals and ebook covers can be cheesy. OTOH, there are some books with beautiful covers and not so beautiful stories. So, it works both ways.

  1. Even though I know I shouldn't, I still sometimes buy books just for their lovely covers! I must have missed the new cover meme - I'll have to go take a look.

  3. I love it when I am proven wrong when I first judged a book by its cover.

  4. Most people seem to be saying that cover is a part of the selection process...I certainly think this is an intriguing issue.

  5. It is definitely the truth that some great books have ugly covers and some horrible books have beautiful covers.

  12. I have to admit, being a very visual person, the cover is the first thing that catches my eyes. There are some books that I absolutely LOVE but will not buy because their newly printed covers are hideous to me. But there are very few books that I read just because the cover "looks pretty" -- the blurb has to be interesting too.

  14. I don't necessarily judge a book by it's cover but I'm definitely drawn to books with covers that attract me. Often that is what will make me pick up a book in the first place. However I have read many terrific books that did not have very appealing covers at all.
